About 250 people took part in a three-kilometre run Sunday evening in Souris to raise money for the families of the three fallen RCMP officers in Moncton.

The town of Souris has a population of just 1,200.

Each kilometre of the run was dedicated to one of the officers who died. The run and walk began at the Souris bridge and ended at the RCMP detachment.

Jillian MacPhee, who helped organize the run, said the idea came from the Running Room event 3km for 3 Fathers held in Moncton.

She said people in the Souris area wanted to do something to show their support as well.

"A lot of people obviously were pretty deeply affected by this, said MacPhee.

"It was kind of an avenue where you could actually feel like you did something to help out ... It was just a simple gesture to say I did do my part, I did help out and recognize the contributions of our RCMP."

Four RCMP officers also took part.

MacPhee said about $3,000 was raised.
