Prince Edward Island's halibut fishery will open Wednesday for one day.

Fishing will start at 6 a.m. and will go until 6 p.m.

Depending on how much halibut is caught Wednesday, another day of fishing might happen Aug. 23.

But it also depends how many other types of fish the longline fishermen unintentionally snag while trying to catch halibut.

This bycatch of other fish includes cod and sharks.

The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans will be monitoring to make sure the fishery is closed when the bycatch reaches set limits.
