Staff at Charlottetown's Eastlink Centre taking extra steps to avoid a computer crash when Shania Twain tickets go on sale Friday.

The concert will be held at the Charlottetown Event Grounds Aug. 30. The grounds are operated by Eastlink Centre, and preparation for the event has included a major software upgrade.

The 28,000 tickets for the Twain show go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Eastlink Centre general manager Dave McGrath said the company that developed the ticket sales software has experience with high-volume sales.

"It was for the theatre district in Boston and Wicked was one of the major shows on sale there and I believe they processed something, over a few days, of 60,000 tickets, and this is the system that they utilized in this upgrade," said McGrath.

"So fingers crossed, we're doing everything that we can to make it a pleasant experience."

The company is sending staff to Charlottetown to deal with any problems.

Eastlink Centre is suggesting people wanting tickets online sign up in advance. Having billing and mailing information already be in the system will make it easier on Friday.

Three ticket windows will be open at Eastlink Centre for walk up business, and people can also try dialing a phone number to make purchases.
