A sewage truck broke down on Riverside Drive in Charlottetown, closing the bypass near the hospital around noon on Friday.

The truck's axle broke as it was heading into town, between the hospital and the roundabout. Fortunately little spilled from the truck as the middle folded in towards the ground.

The P.E.I. Department of Transportation shut down both lanes of traffic and is asking drivers to use Kensington Road instead. Officials need to pump the sewage out of the truck before the road can reopen.

There are no reports of injuries.
