RCMP in Queens County, P.E.I. say several people became the victims of theft Friday because they made a simple mistake.

"Factory car alarms and other security deterrents are of no value whatsoever if cars are left unlocked," said Const. Hope Rose.

"Secure your vehicles at all times and remove any valuables; if possible, light the area around your vehicle; use your garage if you have one; but most importantly call us if you see any suspicious activity. Use your Neighbour Watch to get us the information we need."

On Friday evening, thieves targeted unlocked vehicles in the areas around Brackley Point Road, Winsloe Road and MacQuarrie Road.

RCMP say money, electronics, personal items and valuables disappeared from vehicles.

Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity to call them.
