Almost a third of the courses being offered at this year's Seniors College of P.E.I. are brand new.

Each year, around 600 Islanders 50 years old and up sign up to take the classes in Charlottetown, Summerside and Montague.

College president David McCabe said it's important that many of the 140 courses available are new.

"We've tried in past years as well to do some kind of a renewal. This year we did a survey of our membership during the winter and spring and, again, that came across very strongly. They would like something new. So, 30 per cent of our courses this year are offered for the first time."

Some of the new subjects include Mexican cooking and P.E.I. sport history.

Registration begins Sept. 7. Fees are $152 for an unlimited number of courses.
