Sears hit by layoffs
About 5 mid-tier positions will be cut
About five positions have been cut at the Sears store in Charlottetown as part of nationwide layoffs.
A spokesperson from Sears Canada didn't have the exact number of positions cut in Charlottetown. The company says five positions were eliminated at each store, and Charlottetown would be treated the same.
The positions were mid-tier, meaning they were department leads.
Now customer associates will report directly to the senior manager.
"The changes won't affect the number of front-line associates and service to our customers will not be impacted," said Doug Campbell, president and CEO of Sears Canada, in a press release.
"The changes we are making are designed to result in better store execution and consistency of presentation and standards."
All laid-off employees will receive a severance package.
No further layoffs are expected at this time, said the Sears spokesperson.
