RCMP believe they have broken up an operation in eastern P.E.I. that was processing stolen vehicles for resale.
'Some of the vehicles appear to have the VIN numbers changed. Some vehicles had several different vehicle identification numbers.' - RCMP Sgt Kevin Baillie
Kings District RCMP searched a property Monday in Milburn and seized four vehicles and vehicle parts. Police said one of the pickup trucks found was stolen in Cornwall last week and another was reported stolen in Hampshire.
A 22-year-old man from Bristol was arrested for possession of stolen property.
RCMP Sgt Kevin Baillie said the search of the property came after a tip from the owner of one of the stolen vehicles.
"He had made some inquiries on his own and actually located his vehicle at a property in Milburn," SAID Baillie.
"When we started looking at some other vehicles on the property we discovered one other vehicle that we believe is stolen as well, and two other vehicles that are likely stolen. Some of the vehicles appear to have the VIN numbers changed. Some vehicles had several different vehicle identification numbers on them."
Baillie said the vehicles were in a field not owned by the accused.
The investigation continues. Baillie said Queens District RCMP will be asked to check other stolen vehicle reports from the area. The Insurance Bureau of Canada is also helping with the investigation.
More vehicles could be seized and further charges may be laid.
