A wide swath of eastern P.E.I. was without electricity for about two hours Tuesday morning.
An area stretching from Montague and Georgetown across to St. Peter's Bay, and reaching northeast past Souris was without power starting at about 7:15. The blackout affected about 5,600 customers.
By about 9:15 most power was restored, but there were still about 100 outages along the Souris Line Road.
Souris Regional High School and Souris Consolidated School are closed for the day. Exams at the high school have been rescheduled for the same times Thursday.
Maritime Electric originally believed the problem was at the Lorne Valley substation, but it turned out the source of the trouble was two pieces of broken equipment on poles in Georgetown.
