Potato growers on P.E.I. are warily watching the weather as this year's potato harvest begins.

Boyd Rose, chairman of the P.E.I. Potato Board, said his farmers are not looking forward to a week of wet weather.

The fields would be "pretty much undiggable" with a lot of rain, he said.

"This time of the year, it takes a little longer to dry out," said Rose. "But we've got a long fall ahead of us. Hopefully, the weather will turn around."

Rose said while this year's acreage is lower than last year, the crops look healthy.
