A Summerside police officer has been charged with refusing a breathalyzer and impaired driving in connection with a two- vehicle crash earlier this month.
Police say Cpl. David Murphy, who has been with the force for 22 years, was charged following an investigation.
The crash happened Nov. 5 at the intersection of Central Street and Pope Road.
A Summerside woman who was driving the other vehicle was taken to the Prince County Hospital and later released.
Murphy was off duty at the time of the crash.
He will appear in provincial court on Dec. 13 to enter a plea.
An internal code of conduct investigation has begun. Murphy remains on extended leave.
Police aren't providing any more details while the matter is before the courts.
