More than 700 Islanders attended the Music PEI gala last night at the convention centre in Charlottetown.
The event was hosted by local comedian Patrick Ledwell.
The four members of Paper Lions were the big winners of the night, taking home all but one of the awards they were nominated for.
Paper Lions won six awards, including album of the year.
Drummer David Cyrus MacDonald spoke on behalf of the band.
“I know my bandmates have been working hard and tirelessly to drive this in the artistic direction that they — and we as a group — have really wanted to go. And the band has developed so hard and to see the support for that is really incredible,” he said.
Charlottetown's Colour Code won best new artist of the year. It was the band’s first Music PEI award.
Sam Rayner plays guitar and sings for the band.
“This award really allows us to get more momentum ... a Music PEI award is great and it gives us something to brag about,” he said.
Their EP Houle was nominated for group recording of the year and Pop recording of the year.
