The P.E.I. Invasive Species Council wants Island residents and land owners to learn how to identify and report a growing list of invasive plants.

Invasive plants can cause environmental or ecological damage, and can be expensive to manage or control once they become established.

The Council's list of most wanted plants are:

  • Yellow Flag Iris
  • Wild Cucumber
  • Scotch Broom
  • Purple Loosestrife
  • Periwinkle
  • Multiflora Rose
  • Japanese Knotwood
  • Himalayan Balsam
  • Glossy Buckthorn
  • Giant Hogweed
  • Garlic Mustard
  • Common Buckthorn
  • Bittersweet Nightshade

If Island residents spot one of the invasive plants they are asked to report it. The council will also advise on how to get rid of the plant safely or remove it themselves.
