A group from P.E.I. is preparing to take part in a global LGBTQ event in Toronto.
Toronto is hosting the second World Pride event, a celebration for supporters of the gay community.
The Abegweit Rainbow Collective, a local group that serves LGBTQ Islanders, is sending two members who will run a booth at the World Pride Event. One of those two, Sarah Smith, said the group wants to show the rest of Canada, and the world, how attitudes on P.E.I. have changed.
"To get out there and put P.E.I. on the map with saying, you know, we have these organizations and these establishments that are somewhat of a support system or are a group that does recognize LGBT rights and put that on the map, if people feel like maybe the east coast is somewhere that isn't as advanced in those organizations," said Smith.
World Pride takes place in Toronto from June 20-29.
