The NDP made its first campaign promise today, with a focus on getting rid of patronage on P.E.I.
Party Leader James Rodd says the first step would be the replacement of the P.E.I. Public Service Commission.
"Political patronage is wrong and Islanders suffer heavily as a result of this age-old practice," said Rodd.
"There is a clear connection between fair, objective and independent hiring practices and the increased quality and level of service to the tax paying public."
Rodd said if he is elected premier a new body would be established that would ensure fair hiring in all public sector jobs.
He would also put an ombudsman in place.
