The ferry, which connects Prince Edward Island with Nova Scotia, was out for part of Friday and all of Saturday.

The MV Confederation will sail the five crossings from Wood Islands and Caribou.

On Friday, Northumberland Ferries company vice-president Don Cormier says the issue is with the fluid coupling, which he explains is similar to a clutch. The part was overhauled when the engine of the Holiday Island was replaced over the winter.

The company is asking passengers to go to their website for more information or to change their reservations.

This is the second time in the last month the service has been disrupted by mechanical troubles with the Holiday Island. Reduced service on July 18 left long lines of vehicles waiting for a ride across the Northumberland Strait. Traffic was backing up at Wood Islands again Friday
