Motorcycle accident kills P.E.I. woman

A 46-year-old woman from St-Philippe, P.E.I. died Monday as a result of serious injuries from a motorcycle accident Sunday evening.

A 46-year-old woman from St-Philippe, P.E.I. died Monday as a result of serious injuries from a motorcycle accident Sunday evening.

Yvette Arsenault — who was a passenger on the vehicle — was initially taken to a Moncton hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle lost control at the intersection of Routes 1A and 171 in Central Bedeque.

According to the police investigation, the driver had to brake when a car made a left-hand turn, crossing the motorcycle's path.

The motorcycle tipped over and slid along the road.

"We're trying to make a determination as to whether the vehicle, which made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcycle, did so not leaving sufficient space. Or was the motorcycle travelling at excessive speed?" said Sgt. Kent MacKay, with the East Prince RCMP.

"We've been at the scene, we've done all our measurements, we'll be analyzing all that, to see if we can come up with information that leads us to a conclusion," said MacKay. "But we're also looking for any independent wintnesses that may have observed what happened."

The motorcycle driver was admitted to Prince County hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
