Lane's Riverhouse Inn and Cottages in Montague began accepting guests the weekend of Jan. 17, and the hotel had its first banquet over the weekend.
Owner Robert Jay told CBC News Monday he started with a soft opening, getting feedback from guests on any little improvements they think should be made before the official opening. He says so far response has been very positive.
"We interviewed a lot of them as they left and found out what they found, what they thought they were missing," said Jay.
"It's more of a learning curve the first time you open."
Jay said the feedback from the guests has been good, and the local community is also pleased to see a year-round hotel operating in the town.
"It drives the economy as more guests have a place to stay. And when they stay here, they eat here, they buy gas here, they shop here," he said.
There are 30 rooms in the new hotel, which overlooks the river. Jay has been operating 23 cottages on the same property for a number of years.
The official opening will be on Feb. 6, with an open house and ribbon cutting.
