A 21-year-old Charlottetown man faces multiple charges follow an incident in the parking lot at Canadian Tire on Friday evening.

A security guard was attacked when he tried to stop a man he believed was shoplifting, police said.

The accused kneed the guard in the abdomen and tried to punch him in the face before running away, said police.

Store video surveillance tapes were reviewed as part of the police investigation.

They actually arrested the man the next day in connection with another incident and realized he was the man on the video, said police.
