Man drowns in 3-metre swells off Fernwood
Crews too late to save Stratford man
A Statford, P.E.I., man died after running into difficulty swimming in choppy waters in Fernwood Sunday.
The 41-year-old man entered the Northumberland Strait off the Lighthouse Road. He got into trouble while swimming.
Emergency crews were on the scene at 3:40 p.m. and tried to save him, but a Coast Guard fast rescue craft couldn't reach him in time. His body was recovered.
Police said there were three metre swells at the time. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. His name hasn't been released.
