A developer's design concept for a major housing development in Sherwood, behind Charlottetown Mall, was approved by city council Tuesday night.
The plan for the 15-acre site includes more than 300 residential units, including townhouses, apartments and a 90-room community care centre.
"It is a mixed-use development. It is quite dense and I think that's a good thing," said Coun. Rob Lantz, who heads the city's planning committee.
"I think there's a lot of services in the area and the people in the surrounding area have been quite supportive and interested in the new housing options that will be available there."
The site was a former driving range on Mount Edward Road.
The development will take place in phases over a number of years.
