A hockey player from P.E.I. helped Team Canada capture its first win at the women's under-18 world championships on Saturday.

Stratford's Sarah Steele is the lone Maritimer on the squad competing in Finland.

On Saturday they defeated Hungary 4–1. Canada outshot Hungary 35–11.

In other preliminary round games, Finland edged Germany 3–2, the United States dumped Russia 7–0 and Sweden defeated the Czech Republic 3–2.

On Sunday morning Steele and her teammates take on host country Finland.
