Members of the new Lobster Fishers of Prince Edward Island Marketing Board have been elected and will be installed immediately after the P.E.I. Fishermen's Association annual meeting later this month.

The board is the group that will be responsible for creating a marketing campaign for Island lobster, using money from the new levy being collected this year.

Craig Avery is the president of the P.E.I. Fishermen's Association and said the marketing board is a positive move.

"So those people are all elected. We've got experienced members and new people and I'm feeling real good about it," he said.

"I think it is probably the best move probably that fishermen have made in the history of the association."

The new board has 12 members in total, two from each of the six local associations. The collection of the new levy begins at the start of the spring lobster fishery in May.

Avery said he was an early supporter of the levy.

"I have been an advocate of it from day one. I believe in marketing and promotion, what it can do and the power of it," he said.

The P.E.I. Fishermen's Association annual meeting is March 29.
