P.E.I. Premier Robert Ghiz's right hand man is leaving for Nova Scotia.

Geoff Townsend has been the premier's director of communications for six years, since Ghiz was first elected. Townsend is leaving P.E.I. to become principal secretary with Nova Scotia's newly-elected Premier Stephen McNeil.

Townsend has worked with the Liberals since 1993, under former premier Catherine Callbeck, and then when the party was in opposition.

Prior to that Townsend was a reporter with the Charlottetown Guardian.
