Jeffery Burke gets 3½ years for setting apartment on fire
14 people temporarily homeless after October fire
An eastern P.E.I. man who set fire to an apartment building in Stratford last fall will serve three and a half years in prison.
Jeffery Douglas Burke, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of arson endangering human life in November.
Fourteen people were put out of the homes on Glen Stewart Drive as a result of the arson last October.
The Crown said Burke set the fire after breaking into the apartment where his ex-girlfriend and their 16-month-old daughter lived while they were away.
One neighbour had to be rescued from a third floor balcony.
Burke has been in custody since the day of the fire and will receive credit for time served.
He was also ordered to pay more than $200,000.
