The P.E.I. Rocket will be getting a brand new identity after the end of this coming season, because the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team is asking fans to rename the hockey club.
People can submit their suggestions on the Rocket website or at Tim Hortons restaurants starting Thursday.
Serge Savard Jr., the team's president, says fans want a name with which they can identify.
"The last couple of years people were coming to me saying 'You know, it is time to give another name or rebranding and give this team back to the community.'"
"So that's the purpose today. I really want the Islanders to choose the name. We are not going to have an input in it. We are going to take the most popular one," he said.
The original naming of the P.E.I. Rocket was derived from the connection Serge Savard Sr. had with Maurice "The Rocket" Richard, according to the team website. At that time, the team was playing out of the Rocket Richard Arena in Montreal.
The winning entry will be announced at the Rocket's home opener on Sept. 21.
The team will be rebranded for the 2013-2014 season.
