An Islander has helped Canada defend its world under-18 women's hockey championship title.

Stratford's Sarah Steele is the lone Maritimer on the squad.

Team Canada took on their arch-rivals from the U.S. on Saturday for the gold medal.

The Americans led the game until the last minute of the third period when Canada tied it up.

With 58 seconds into overtime Canada scored to win gold.

Canada also won last year's tournament in the Czech Republic.
