Professional basketball team on P.E.I. waiving 100 dollar fee for camps

Island Storm basketball coach, Joe Salerno, hopes free summer camps will get even more Island children involved in the sport.

The Island Storm basketball team will be offering free camps across P.E.I. this summer for students. The fee is normally one hundred dollars.

Over the last few seasons the coach and players of the Island Storm have spent part of the summer running the camps.

Coach Joe Salerno said the goal of waiving the fee this year is to get even more Island young people involved in the sport.

"We are really hoping that this year, with these camps being free, it is going to kind of open the door for a lot of kids that maybe didn't have the opportunity in the past to come to a storm camp," said Salerno.

Four camps will be offered across the Island, in Charlottetown, Summerside, West Prince and in Kings County at various dates throughout the summer.

Each camp runs for four, half days. About eighty players will be accepted for each camp. Students in grades 5 through 10 are welcome to register on a first come first served basis.
