International students at UPEI delayed by strike
Some international students hoping to begin their studies at UPEI this fall are not going to be in Charlottetown on time to start with their classmates.
A strike by diplomatic staff at Canadian embassies around the world is stalling the processing of visas.
Jerry Wang, the registrar of international students at UPEI, said he knows of at least a dozen new students who have not yet received their study visas.
"Some areas in the world visa application time is normally longer than the other areas," said Wang.
"We're getting students emails, their calls, asking about what if I'm late, and do I have to defer my admission to next semester."
UPEI has put arrangements in place to help students who arrive a couple of weeks late to catch up.
