Independent cinema marks 20 years in Charlottetown
Film buffs in Charlottetown are celebrating a milestone as City Cinema marks 20 years in business.
The downtown theatre shows mainstream and foreign films as well as documentaries, and many of them are not screened anywhere else in the province. That makes City Cinema a special place for fans of film, says founder Derek Martin.
“We've created a niche for a lot of different people down here. Our audience is all-ages. You know, certain films will get a younger crowd for us, some films will get an older crowd for us. So we're not just one thing to one group of people, which I like,” said Martin.
“I wouldn't call it a community centre like some, but it is more than just a movie theatre too.”
The theatre held a special Film and Food event Sunday night to mark the occasion.
