The University of Prince Edward Island has stopped the search for a new women's basketball coach until a review of the varsity sports program is completed.

Earlier this month, Greg Gould announced he would be stepping down after two seasons with the team.

Assistant coach Kathy Murray also said she is not returning to the team's bench.

The university said it would start the search for a new head coach right away and posted the job.

Now that hiring is on hold.

UPEI says it will wait until a review of its athletics department is complete.

The report, being conducted by local sports leader and coach Dave MacNeill, is expected in mid-July.
