The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation telethon was held on P.E.I. over of the weekend, raising $638,600 for new medical equipment for the hospital.

This year, the foundation is hoping to purchase a tissue processor, a patient monitoring system, and some new beds.

"At some point every Islander is going to need the QEH, with it being the main referral hospital on the Island," said telethon chair Chris Whitlock.

"It's nice that we can keep Islanders home, have the updated equipment here to serve the needs of all Islanders."

The telethon has been raising money for the hospital for 17 years, and over that time has brought in $5.5 million.
