The community of Murray Harbour, P.E.I. is planning a big welcome home celebration Friday evening for Alyssa Chapman, who brought home two gold medals from the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in South Korea.

Chapman and Ellen McNearney of Montague returned to P.E.I. early Thursday morning. Chapman won her medals in figure skating. McNearney won a gold and a bronze in cross-country skiing.

"We have a reception at the community centre. We'll be serving cake and coffee and tea," said community administrator Joan Young.

"We are really hoping that a lot of people will come out and just congratulate her and give her the recognition that she deserves."

Young said the residents of the Murray Harbour/Murray River area have been following Chapman's success in sport through the years and have been involved in some sponsorship.

The party starts at 7 p.m. at the Murray Harbour Community Centre.
