The NDP on P.E.I. is calling on the provincial government to put more resources into home-care support for seniors.
Last week Health PEI issued a request for proposals for more long-term beds in the province, but NDP Leader Mike Redmond said that's the wrong approach.
Instead, Redmond would like to see more focus on keeping seniors in their homes. He said a lack of home-care support results in seniors being placed in nursing homes, which is more expensive for government and less comfortable for seniors.
"Work to keep seniors in their homes longer, work with families, and make sure that the last remaining years of a seniors life is dignified," he said.
Redmond says government should be doing everything possible to help seniors to live independently in the community.
