Prince Edward Island’s power utility is warning parents to make sure children stay off high snowbanks that are near power lines.

A spokeswoman with Maritime Electric says the company received two calls Sunday about kids playing on snowbanks dangerously close to power lines.

"Those are high voltage lines and you can be electrocuted, so you just want to be very very careful and stay away from them," Kim Griffin said.

“We just want to make sure people are looking up for power lines and staying away from them.”

Griffin also urges people to be careful when snowblowing near power lines.
