Visitor restrictions are in place in Unit One at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after several patients came down with a gastro-intestinal illness.
Unit one is the orthopedic and medical nursing unit at PEI's largest hospital, in Charlottetown. The patients who have the illness are experiencing diarrhea. Lab specimens have been taken. Some that have already come back are negative for norovirus.
Special precautions are being taken with patients who have symptoms and staff are taking extra infection control measures. The unit has been closed to all visitors for a 24 hour period.
The situation will be reassessed Tuesday morning and hospital officials will provide more information at that time. Anyone coming into the hospital is being reminded of the importance of cleaning their hands.
