An investigation is underway into a fire in an abandoned Mount Stewart house on Tuesday night.

Shortly after 7 p.m., fire crews from Mount Stewart, Morell and East River were called in to battle a blaze at house on Main Street.

Firefighters worked for hours to contain the blaze.

High winds made the job treacherous for emergency crews.

"We have cinders blowing on other single family dwellings, on a parallel street, said Dave Rossiter, the provincial fire marshal.

"So we actually have two operations on the go right now. One directly on the fire behind me, and another is basically protecting the exposures."

No one was injured.

Rossiter said investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.

They're hoping to speak to the owner of the abandoned home.
