Representatives of police, family victims services and legal aid will join together Thursday night to make presentations at a forum aimed at spreading awareness of family violence.

Part of the Purple Ribbon Taskforce's plan is to share with young people information about unhealthy relationships, says Jane Ledwell. (CBC)

The forum is sponsored by Charlottetown's Purple Ribbon Taskforce. The taskforce was started in 2001 after an incident of family violence led to a death.

Taskforce member Jane Ledwell said the group is also putting together videos aimed at spreading awareness amongst young people.

"[It's] to share that in a way that young people can also relate to it and know that healthy relationships are important and healthy relationships are possible, that there's some warning signs of unhealthy relationships and that violence happens in the Charlottetown community and it's something that we can work together to prevent," said Ledwell.

Ledwell hopes both these projects will help the community become more aware of the issue.

The public forum is at the Rodd Charlottetown, and starts at 7 p.m.
