A family dog is being credited with saving a man's life during a house fire on Route 5 in the Head of Cardigan, P.E.I., early Saturday.
The man had been home alone asleep about 12:30 a.m. when he was awakened by the dog barking and saw the flames, Const. Paul Richard of the Montague RCMP stated in a news release.
By the time firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed, he said.
The man and dog escaped uninjured, but the home was destroyed.
RCMP and the fire marshal's office are trying to determine the cause.
Fire crews from Cardigan, Montague and Georgetown responded.
