Singer-songwriter Dennis Ellsworth is representing P.E.I. in CBC Music's national Searchlight competition.

More than 4,000 Canadian musicians entered their music to become Canada’s best new artist. That number has now been narrowed down to 24.

Ellsworth and his song Things I Want now move on to compete for the top spot.

CBC Music's Grant Lawrence thinks Ellsworth is one to watch..

“You know that he's one of my favourites so I am very happy with this choice. And I really think it's one of the strongest songs in the entire competition. But there are some other root singer-songwriters out there that you know could give him a run for his money,” he said.

In this national round, the five artists or bands who get the most votes will automatically make the cut.

Then, a panel of celebrity judges will hand-pick the remaining five acts to round out the top 10.

For this round, people can vote everyday for up to five acts.
