P.E.I. has no bears, they say. But a dead bear cub turned up on a road in Piusville, on the island province's west side.

Conservation officer Wade MacKinnon has a simple — if bizarre — explanation. He thinks it's a prank.

"They find a roadkill in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia at the side of the road," he said. "As a prank, they’ll take it here and put it on the side of the road here and subsequently turn around and call the media or call a conservation officer to respond."

MacKinnon says that kind of thing happened last year with porcupines. And truckers sometimes take skunks from P.E.I. to Cape Breton, he said.
