Construction firm fined $2.5K for engineering without licence
Southern Kings Construction owner Kevan MacLean entered guilty plea Monday
A P.E.I. company, Southern Kings Construction, was fined $2,500 in provincial court Monday morning for practising engineering without a licence .
The charges were in relation to construction of a four-storey hotel, the Riverhouse Inn, in Montague last summer. Owner Kevan MacLean entered a guilty plea on behalf of his firm.
Personal charges against MacLean under the Engineering Profession Act were stayed.
Southern Kings was also fined last fall for failing to use a qualified architect on the same project. Prosecutors say concern for public safety required court action on the violations.
A lawyer for Southern Kings Construction told court the building itself has been inspected and meets all construction and safety standards.
