Two P.E.I. bands are competing in World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland this month.

Summerside's College of Piping has sent 45 students to compete, the largest contingent the school has ever sent. College director of education James MacHattie is in Scotland with the students, and he said the musicians are well prepared.

"We've been building towards this for one year, though of course the bands have been together for longer, working to get accustomed to each other, working as a unit," said MacHattie.

"Both bands are well beyond where my expectations for them were at this time of year. So I'm excited, I'm pleased, and everybody is pretty pumped up."

The bands arrived in Glasgow Friday and will compete for the top spot in World Championships next Saturday. The group will return to P.E.I. on Aug. 19.
