A Charlottetown school teacher has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and sexual assault.

Sylvain Aritho Amfoubalela entered the pleas in P.E.I. Supreme Court Friday afternoon.

He is charged with assaulting a woman in June. He was released on the condition that he stay away from the alleged victim.

Amfoubalela is a teacher at Birchwood Intermediate School.

The woman is not a student or teacher there.

Amfoubalela elected to have his case tried by Supreme Court judge alone.

His trial will be held in March in Charlottetown.
