Charlottetown pizzeria up for hall of fame
A P.E.I.-owned and operated restaurant is in the running to be named Canada's favourite pizza spot.
Famous Pepper's Pizza started up in the eastern Island community of Cardigan and moved to Charlottetown a year ago. The restaurant is competing in the nation-wide online voting contest, hosted by Saputo Dairy Limited.
Early Wednesday afternoon Famous Peppers was leading the country in the voting.
"It's great for Prince Edward Island, I mean, to think Canada-wide. You know, you think some of those places in the bigger cities, Toronto and Vancouver, we're number one," said co-owner Jocelyn Mitchell.
"It'd mean a lot, obviously, to us. My dad started this business in little old Cardigan nine years ago and I don't even think he thought it could become this."
Only restaurants that use Saputo products can enter the contest. The winner will be named in mid-January and gets $10,000 worth of cheese. Three customers will receive pizza for a year.
