Charlottetown nets all-star basketball event
City investing 'substantial amount' for celebration
League commissioner Paul Riley made the announcement at the Island Storm versus Halifax Rainmen game Monday night.
The league wants to reward P.E.I. fans for embracing basketball, and the City of Charlottetown contributed financially to the event, said Riley.
"I think it raises the profile of the team here, certainly, because, unless you're a fan of the team and you're going to the game, you still might not know much about it," said Riley.
"But when an All-Star Weekend comes and the media that surrounds that — it will be a national media focusing on the game here and the weekend — I think it brings many eyes to Charlottetown at that time of the year when normally perhaps there may not be."
Riley wouldn't disclose the figure the city is investing, but said it's a substantial amount.
Canadian rapper Choclair will perform and university basketball all-stars from the East Coast will also make an appearance at the event on April 19 and 20.
