A P.E.I. wood-processing company was charged Tuesday in connection with the death of an employee on the job last February.

Kenneth Duffenais, 34, of Montague, was killed in Avondale after he was caught in the clamps of a tree harvester. Duffenais was working for Cardigan-based Island Pulp Producers.

Island Pulp Producers is charged with four counts under the province's occupational health and safety regulations. The charges relate to the safety of the employee and the machinery.

The week after the accident, an official with the Workers Compensation Board said Duffenais was reaching to pick up a branch when the tree harvester was activated, even though the operator wasn't in the cab.
