Brookvale ski hill won't reopen despite heavy snow
The ski hill at the Brookvale Winter Activity Park will not reopen this season, despite last week’s dump of snow.
The alpine and Nordic facility is owned by the Prince Edward Island government and closed last Sunday at the end of March break.
Andrew Sprague, a spokesman for the Department of Tourism and Culture, says the hill will remain closed. He said the province budgets about $400,000 a year to operate the slope.
"If we were to open for another week or two weeks because we have more snow at the end of our normal operating cycle, we'd be running the risk of going over budget," he said.
"And if we did — and the chances are pretty good we would — we'd have to find that money elsewhere."
