Walter "Peanuts" Arsenault, a well-known P.E.I. boxer and member of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame, died Friday at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside at the age of 78.

Arsenault, began his boxing career in 1945. He boxed continuously for 27 years, without the benefit of a manager.

His professional career spanned 114 ring battles, and his record stands at 67 wins, 38 losses and nine draws.

Once ranked among the top contenders for the Canadian welterweight title, he fought in rings all across Canada as well as the New England states.

He was inducted into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
