A body has been found in Stratford P.E.I. just outside of Charlottetown.

RCMP said they are trying to determine what caused the person's death.

The local detachment, major crime and forensics were on on site Thursday night.

The body was found by two men working in the woods off Keppoch Road.

They called the owner of the property, who told CBC the body looked as if it had been decomposing for some time.

RCMP confirmed that it appears as though the body has been there for awhile.

"A member of the public called us, we responded and some human remains were found in the woods," said Sgt. Leanne Butler of the RCMP.

RCMP can't say whether the body is a man, or a woman or how long the body has been there at this point.

She said the RCMP is not yet clear whether the matter is criminal in nature.

The RCMP are handing the body over to the coroner to perform a full autopsy.

More details are expected Friday morning.
